Night Sky

The good think about having a little furry companion is that you get to be outside many nights.  I love seeing the stars, planets, moon and occasional “what’s that”.

Photos were taken two consective nights in early October.  The SpaceX Starlink satellite “train”,  provides global high-speed internet.  When first launched the satellites are all in a close orbit and then become spread apart.  Eventially there is to be 42,000 satellites orbiting in our night sky.

I love how Orion is in this picture.  I only had my iphone and a pup in one arm, just pointing in the general direction of the satellites.  I was so happy and surprised that i was able to get a photo of them!

Orion was one of the first constellations I learned to identify. Of course, in those days the sky wasn’t ‘cluttered up’ with space stations and satellites and such! I have friends who used Starlink in their western Oregon home — it was the only way to get connected. It’s got some downsides, but there’s no doubt it also has value. How cool that you got these photos!

Orion was one of my first constellations too, along with the Pleiades. We certainly are adding a lot of debris to the night sky. What goes up must come down. Thankfully the DART mission of NASA and John Hopkins Applied Science were successful at deflecting an asteroid. Might need that technology before too long!!

Hi!! Love these photos! We saw that Starlink train about 2 weeks ago. We didn’t know what it was at the time- but it was so cool. After it passed, I looked it up. It’s pretty amazing to see. Hope you’re doing well!

It is so amazing to see! Were the satellites still in a tight train or were they spread out more? My son and family saw them when they were really spread out and at the time they didn’t know what they were, there were so many of them!!

With your wide open sky you would have a beautiful view of the night sky!! The satellite traini really amazing to see. Just would rather it be a natural occurrence. I was amazed that I got such a good photo of them with my little iPhone that I couldn’t see -it was just point in the general direction and hope. I’m pretty use to shooting one handed with Wylie tucked in one arm!!
      Miss you two!!

I was so surprised that the photos turned out so well. I wasn’t looking for the satellites, they just suddenly appeared. Thankfully I had my iphone as I use it for a flash light. Quite an amazing site to see. The night sky is so beautiful. 44,000 Starlink satellites in a low orbit, a lot of moving objects on the sky.
