Look who made Double D’s Best Nine!!!
I love that little Pup and love those boots!
It just doesn’t seem possible that Wylie is 6 years old!! I always bake him a “cake” and of course there are presents. This year I decided to make “cupcakes”. Following a basic meatloaf recipe, his cupcake was made of elk, carrots, and spinach. A cupcake wouldn’t be complete without frosting. Wylie’s frosting is plain mashed potatoes (no salt or butter). Happy Birthday, Wylie❤️
Patiently waiting
Happy Birthday Wylie!!!
I have help making Wylie’s birthday “cake”, buffalo patties with rice, spinach and carrots, “frosted” with mashed potatoes.
Did someone take a bite out while I wasn’t looking?
This is one of the largest cottonwood trees in Kansas. It is located in El Dorado. Pioneers used the cottonwood as building materials for cabins. It was not the preferred wood as it is soft, weak, and porous. It was chosen only when other sturdy woods were unavailable. They reproduce from the “cotton” that the Kansas winds blow around like snow in the early summer. Cottonwoods grow rapidly in ideal conditions, reaching 100 feet in 15 years.
Where’s Wylie????? (Look closely)
Can quite reach far enough. I love those tree huggers:)
Kansas sunrise with double sundogs. I would much rather have the “dog days of summer” than winter! I guess it’s mother nature’s way of showing us the beauty in the 12 inches of snow.
There is always something beautiful in nature. I love being able to see the sun rise, the moon, storms in the distance and this year I’ve seen so many rainbows. Sights like these make you slow down and let you reconnect with the beauty that surrounds you.
I’m really enjoying the garden this year. The tomatoes are slow in setting on, but when we get some they are so delicious. The cucumbers are doing well, and we are enjoying them with vinegar, sugar and some oil. The basil is really doing great, I put in 7 plants and I have made a lot of pesto. The other night I used basil, parsley, garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice and oil as a marinade for shrimp and grilled them. The beets are almost gone, have pulled all the onions, the peas were wonderful, that season doesn’t last long enough, and we are just waiting on the okra.
See the dill right behind Wylie, that was where the rescued caterpillar was relocated. I was so disappointed that I missed seeing it come out of its cocoon.
So many days with the forecast of severe weather, I thought it would be prudent to put together a “storm bag”. I assembled it very quickly last night with the threat of severe weather headed our way. My “storm bag” included my billfold, phone charger, iPad, 2 bags of treats for Wylie, Wylie’s food, and his leash. I looked up the basic disaster supply kit on FEMA’s website. I need to add a few more items to my “storm bag”. It’s really something we all to think of!
This is the Tornado Intercept Vehicle also known as TIV2. For the last couple of days they have been in Kansas chasing tornadoes and they have been kept busy. They were actually IN the Smith Center tornado and then the next day they were at the Bennington tornado. The forecast for Kansas includes a chance for severe weather again today, but the TIV2 crew was getting ready to head south to Oklahoma today.
Our neighbors chickens are really producing some beautiful eggs. I can’t wait for our hens to start laying. Some of these eggs are almost the size of goose eggs. Our chickens are 2 months and they will start laying at about 6 months. Love fresh eggs!
I used some of the eggs to make a spinach, onion, mushroom and cheese frittata. I also plan on making an angel food cake this weekend.
