Finally the hot dry days of August are behind us. It’s okay that August went fast – it was too hot! Cooler days and nights in the 60’s, a good time to drive up to Bennington Lake for walking and day camping.
Leaves are starting to turn red and yellow. Sumac and probably poison ivy.
Me and my shadow. Wylie is such a wonderful companion.
Early morning walk in the moonshine from the super blue moon with Venus rising.
Lindsborg has the Dala horses, Wamego has Toto’s and Abilene has cowboy boots. In 2019 a group decided to install cowboy boots around the town, celebrating that the first cowboy boot was invented in Abilene in 1863.
Thank you to all the artists who designed these boots.

Thank you Wylie for being such a good sport and sitting for each photo. Time for a treat!
We took off on the backroads to Lincoln county, one of our favorite places to go
Kansas is known for the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. We also have the Rim Man, a farmer really used his imagination to build this snowman out of tire rims.
Where’s Wylie? I always love to photograph him at the foot of a big old tree.
Beside the Post Rock Motel (which dates back to the 1950’s) is a wonderful Himalayan resturant. A tiny little building, with great food! It is definately worth a trip to Lincoln.
It was a beautiful winter day at the Kanoplis Lake. I always like to go this time of the year to see the eagles in their nest. This pair has been coming to this spot for years. The park closes the trails around their nest.
Temperatures were in the 50’s today, but we’ve had some really cold weather with wind chills in the -10! Parts of the lake are frozen over.
Wylie, the rock climber, we didn’t make it to the top!
Beautiful sky
So thankful for the nice winter day. It’s going to change tomorrow and get cold again with only a slight chance of moisture.
Today was the first cool morning we’ve had all week. It was wonderful to be out for an early morning walk.
A little sun dog.
We were out just after sunrise. In fact we woke up a little fawn that was in the tall grass along side the road. I wasn’t able to get any photos of it as I had to get ahold of Wylie! The little fawn ran along the road and then went back into the tall grass. Mom was out in the field watching!!
Cone Flowers Echinacea growing in the ditch. Some people use the flower buds and leaves for tea. I was taught to dig the root for tea. That’s what I drank last winter to boost my immune system. Just steep the root and enjoy!!
My therapy. We are so blessed to be out on the backroads. No other sounds, just Nature
Headed home from our walk, cowboys were in the pasture gathering cattle. Beautiful morning to be on horseback. Wishing you a wonderful blessed day.
For the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Christ Episcopal Cathedral has for years had a beautiful service for the blessing of the animals. A perfect day for the outdoor service.
Wylie is 2,556 days old. He turned 7 today. Happy Birthday Wylie!!!
I made his 2 layer “cake” out of elk, peas, carrots, spinach and brown rice, “frosted” with mashed potatoes. I served it on a cherished cake stand that was my mother’s.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but it’s like a friend you haven’t seen in a long time and you just pick up right where you left off. Today our adventure was one of my favorite places, Lincoln County, KS. I love the landscape and especially the limestone, be it fence post, homes or bridges. ❤ Limestone
Lincoln County has a program that recognizes all the old schools. Here’s a couple we saw today.
Liberty School 1893-1947
Spring Valley School 1893-1953
I love goats
What a beautiful home and barn. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to fix this up?
Stone Arched Bridge
Huge old oak tree. That’s Wylie sitting at the base of the tree.
Unique silo
Something I have NEVER seen……..A plane at the gas station!!
It’s good to be back with a post. Hopefully I can get use to using a laptop instead of a desktop (as I no longer have a desktop because it quit!). It’s been quite a learning experience for me. I can get into all sorts of trouble on a laptop. Touch the little touchpad the wrong way and things disappear!! Touch the screen and it either grows big or small or disappears. What do you use when you post? And please don’t tell me you post on your phone!!!!!
