Such a beautiful evening after a beautiful although windy Kansas day.

A windmill is something I have always wanted. They stand as proud sentinels on the Kansas plains.
So many of them no longer operating and showing the ravages of time and weather.

When Wylie and I are out on the backroads, we occasionally (always) find a place to shop that has treasures from the past and present. There is a great shop in Lucas, Auntie Gurtie’s Art & Antiques (please check out her page of Facebook!) On a recent trip to Lucas, I finally got a windmill!!!
Unlike the time I asked Mr. Farmer to hang a galvanized bucket upside down in the chicken house for a chandelier, his reply “You want me to do what?”, he liked the idea of hanging a windmill wheel on the outside wall of the house. If you follow Pinterest you have probably seen these half wheels, they are very popular in decorating.
Mounting the half 6′ wheel required some thought on how to secure it so it wouldn’t rattle in the wind. Mr. Farmer designed some brackets to hold it securely.

Wylie supervising from a safe distance.

The job was not without injury. While cutting an anti-rattle device (plastic hose), Mr. Farmer cut his thumb. He also designed his bandage!!

I love art work, especially re-purposed art!

Old sewing stand and sink. A treasure from Julie’s Birdboxes in Lucas, KS

Christ Cathedral at Salina was honoring St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, with a celebration of the Blessing of the Animals. I wouldn’t miss this opportunity to present Wylie before the altar to receive blessings and for me too, so that I will be guided for his care.

Please be kind to all animals great and small ❤️🐾
(and people too)
The day is starting out with lightning to the west of us as a cold front is approaching. I’m out feeding the horses, goats and donkey. It’s nice that they know which feed bucket to go to. Everyone has their head in their feed bucket.

Wylie is waiting for his breakfast!
Will and Bill dining
Chili is always done before anyone else and will push his way into the goats feed buckets.

Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the autumn weather and all the fall festivals that are being held in your area. I’m headed out to find some windmill blades!!
It’s nice to spend time outside on these cooler almost fall days. Some plants are finished blooming for the year, others are reblooming and some are just starting. I love this time of year!

A thunderstorm just passed. This has been the most unusual summer with August being so rainy.

I found the perfect chandelier for my butterfly garden.

Even the hummingbird likes the Shabby Chic Chandelier
This piece of yard art is made of vintage dishes! Love it♥

Butterfly milkweed – the monarchs will be migrating soon!!
We just felt the earthquake in Kansas. 5.6 centered near Pawnee, Oklahoma
That was quite a way to start the day. We were sitting at the table reading the paper, having breakfast, when things started rattling. The chandelier was swaying back and forth, dishes were rattling………Wylie was sleeping on the back of the couch. I thought animals were sensitive to earthquakes, I guess not when you’re sleeping!
We just had a cold front roar thru. Instead of the 90’s tomorrow we will be in the upper 70’s and mid 50’s. The dust is from the wheat field across the road. I took this photo just as the storm was coming in. I had to go inside as I couldn’t see!! I can’t imagine what the Dust Bowl during the 30’s was like. We did receive 2″ of rain!
I hope this is a sign of an early fall.
Every year Wylie does a photo shoot for the Love, Chloe Foundation through our local photographer, Jane with Forever Memories. It is an amazing foundation that provides support for families in Central Kansas who have a child with cancer. Here is a link to their website:

I liked the photo so much and asked to see it in sepia. Really like the way it look, and decided to do it on canvas. This photo was also featured on the Facebook page of Double D Ranchwear, who sells the Trapper by Lane cowboy boot.
Good boy ❤️ 🐾

It’s been quite a week in Kansas weather wise. There were sever weather warnings issued everyday. The brome grass is ready to be cut, as soon as the fields dry out they will be cutting and baling hay. It’s wonderful to see a beautiful partly cloudy Kansas sky, instead of one filled with storm clouds!

Wednesday, May 25th there was a large tornado that form just to the east of us. It was on the ground for over an hour and was up to 1/2 mile wide. It stayed mostly over rural areas, damaging around 25 homes, some that no longer exist. The tornado narrowly missed Chapman, which was devastated by a tornado in 2008.
This is the backside of the tornadic storm. It was amazing to watch the thunderhead grow so rapidly.
There are many videos of the tornado that occurred that day, search for: Kansas tornado May 25, 2016, Dickinson County
With Mr. Farmer on a trip, I get to do the morning chores. I don’t make it out quite as early as they’re use to being fed, so they are certainly glad to see me!
Champ is waiting by his bucket. He is now the only horse, as Dozy is now with a young lady and will be her barrel racing horse. She will enjoy that!
This trio is always entertaining. Chili, Will, and Bill all wait patiently each by their own bucket.
Chili, miniature donkey

Will and Bill
Will, the white and black, is a fainting goat. He doesn’t faint for very long, he comes to just as you are about to get his collar on, hang on, this could be a rodeo!
Will’s thoughts: Would you PLEASE quite taking pictures and FEED US

Even though there are 2 buckets for them, they like to eat out of one and head butt each other!

I don’t have the large flock of hens that I use to have, it’s enough to keep us in eggs and less cleaning for me!
left to right: Jacquie, Thelma and Louise, or Louise and Thelma, I can’t tell them apart! Miss Kitty was already in the nesting box so I didn’t bother her.

Mac, 8 week old rooster that a dear friend gave me. He lived in town, NO roosters allowed! I’m glad he is here, can’t wait till he starts crowing!

Enjoy you day! It’s beautiful on the prairie in Kansas, finally some sun!
